Question:Imagine if a drug company developed a drug treatment that is proven to add 100 years to your life with a cost of $1,000,000. How ethical would this be? Would it be fair that poor people could not afford it? How would you feel if you couldnt afford it? How about if you could? There seems to be a fine line where drug companies are out to make as much money as possible yet some of their advances truly do save or extend lives. My question exagerates current technology but is probably not so far off for future technology. I would also be interested in what you would do if the decision to ban or allow this type of drug was yours? What do you think would happen with such a difference between the lifespan of rich vs poor? How would it affect society? Assume that the aging process would be slowed down. Some great thoughts so far.

Answers:i would be more concerned about my retirement benifits, my medical care *insurance. Social Security Benifit? Some people would like to live another 100 years, others are happy with the life they have, and thier natural lifespan. I would not allow or ban this drug.........I will have to ponder your question and add more later. I don't know if it would be a rich vs poor issue. AS we don't have health coverage for 30% of the population in the USA. So, yes it would be an ethical issue. But isn't paying to go into outter space if you have enough money you can do whatever you want? I'm sure there would be a lottery for the poor, or a sweepstakes for those who are not millionaires. The average peson cannot afford the million dollar pill. So, I guess since the drug companies are out to make money, this would not be a good drug to market. ???? I think it would affect people with huge egos, and would there be a limit of children they (men) could bring into this world? I will ponder this question and get back to you. Do you think Oprah or Trump would purchase this pill? Would Oprah want to battle her wieght 100 extra years, could we stand more building with the name of TRUMP on them??/
